Westernport Water supports Sustaining Coastal Communities Awards 2011

Westernport Water has joined other conservation groups in celebrating Phillip Island’s sustainability achievements at the 2011 Sustaining Coastal Communities Awards.

Paul Mannix, proprietor of the Rhyll Trout and Bush Tucker Farm, and Rob & Cathie Grey both received awards sponsored by Westernport Water for their efforts in decreasing their water consumption.
Mr Mannix received two separate commendations on the evening; he was awarded the ‘Highest Reduction in Water Use’ in the Business section, as well as the ‘Most Significant Change’ award. The Rhyll Trout and Bush Tucker Farm managed to save 60% of its water usage by installing efficient cycling and filtration systems.
Similarly, Mr and Mrs Grey were awarded with the ‘Highest Reduction in Water Use’ in the Residential section. By installing a number of rainwater tanks on their property in Ventnor, the Greys were able to offset their water usage by a full 100%.
The awards ceremony also heralded the release of a new brochure, ‘Sustainable Phillip Island’, which is a call to action for residents and visitors to decrease unnecessary waste and focus on sustainable living practices.
