National Water Week poster competition now open

Westernport Water marks National Water Week (NWW) each year by running a poster competition for local primary school students within our service area.

The competition provides a great opportunity for students to put their artistic creativity to the test by creating a colourful A3 poster.

The theme of this year’s NWW and poster competition is ‘Our water stories’.

We invite students to reflect on what water means to them and to share their own individual connection to water through their poster.  A water story could be about a favourite watering hole, a beach to walk along, or a shoreline to surf. Maybe it’s sitting quietly by a river, walking through a rainforest, or just drinking that first glass of water in the morning. What ‘springs’ to mind when you hear the word WATER?

Westernport Water will award prizes to the best three posters in each age category, and local winners will also be entered into the state-wide poster competition and judged against winners of other regions for even greater prizes.

In addition to the student prizes, all participating schools are entered into a random draw for a $500 contribution towards a sustainability project, purchase of water efficient products or educational materials of the school’s choice.

Students have until 5pm on Friday 2 September 2022 to enter, and winners will be announced during National Water Week, 17 – 23 October 2022.

This year, posters need to be uploaded via our new website, a collaboration with other Victorian water corporations who run the competition, and with funding provided by the Department of Environment, Land, Water, and Planning.

All competition guidelines and information on how to enter can be found on our website – https://www.westernportwater.com.au/nww-poster-competition-2022/

Quotes attributed to Westernport Water’s General Manager of Corporate and Community, Gareth Kennedy

“Water education is essential for everyone, but above all, we must teach the leaders of tomorrow how to protect our water by caring for the environment and using drinking water wisely.”

“We are excited to receive the entries for this year’s competition. Our staff look forward to seeing what students create, and participate by voting for their favourite posters each year.”
