Fodder Donation for Bushfire Affected Farmers
A valued donation of locally grown livestock feed is on its way to support regional farmers recovering from devastating bushfires thanks to the availability of recycled water.
Yesterday, disaster relief charity Need for Feed collected 47 bales of hay and 20 bales of silage directly from the facility. The much-needed fodder will be transported to the Longwood area to help feed cattle and sheep. Longwood was among several communities impacted by destructive bushfires earlier this year.
What makes this donation unique is its origin. Both the hay and silage were grown directly on-site at the King Road Treatment facility near Coronet Bay, irrigated entirely with recycled water. This approach highlights a powerful dual benefit, driving sustainable water reuse while providing tangible, hands-on support to regional communities in times of crisis.
Need for Feed, a Lions Club project, has been distributing fodder for nearly two decades. Established in 2006/07 during the height of the Millennium Drought, it has been a lifeline for rural Australia who have been facing the threats of extreme drought and bushfires.
This donation of fodder stands as a prime example of resource recovery, demonstrating how utilising recycled water today can help rebuild and sustain farming communities for tomorrow.

“We’re incredibly grateful for this generous donation of hay and silage. This fodder will provide immediate, practical relief to fire-affected farmers in the Murrindindi Shire as they work to rebuild and sustain their livestock.”
