Small water Corporation making a big difference

Staff at Westernport Water participate in Walk 4 Water event during March raising money for water projects in developing countries.

Motivated by the challenge to create awareness and raise money for water projects in developing countries, staff at Westernport Water walked 10,000 steps per day and become one of Australia’s top 10 Walk 4 Water fundraisers.
Managing Director of Westernport Water, Murray Jackson commented
“Providing clean drinking water literally saves lives. It reduces water borne diseases such as cholera and typhoid, as well as enhancing the physical safety and education of women and children in developing countries. All money raised goes directly into building wells, pumps, taps, bores, rain harvesting and distribution facilities.”
Walk 4 Water is an annual fundraising event established by WaterAid Australia, an international organisation providing clean drinking water through targeted projects in developing communities worldwide and this year the event raised over $77,000 Australia wide.
“Westernport Water is one of the smallest water corporations in Victoria, so to be in the top 10 fundraisers Australia wide is a fantastic achievement, and I am very proud of our staff for participating and raising awareness in this important event” said Mr. Jackson.
A special mention goes to the efforts of Kristy Stephens, Westernport Water’s Accountant and Treasurer of the Boardriders Club, who ran over 50km during the week, engaged friends and family in her awareness campaign, and became the highest fundraiser in the team.
“Next year we plan to make this event even bigger, and would like to encourage more community support” Mr. Jackson added.
