What is the Community Support Program?

Westernport Water’s Community Support Program offers funding for local community groups, projects and events within our service area. We are committed to sponsorship around the key themes of healthy people, healthy communities and healthy planet. We will offer consideration to sponsorship applications associated with:

  • water and wastewater literacy and education, water conservation
  • environmental wellbeing / sustainability
  • health and liveability of our community
  • social wellbeing of our community
  • cultural heritage / Aboriginal water values

What is the aim of a Community Support Program?

Facilitating open and effective competition around sponsorship opportunities and ensuring no conflicts of interest. Ensure a consistent, fair, impartial and transparent approach to sponsorship

The aim of the program is to provide the community with an open and effective competition around sponsorship opportunities sponsorship and donations to support events, initiatives and campaigns that align with the Corporation’s strategic objectives and demonstrate relevance to our products and services.

Why are you spending money on this?

Pricing Submission (2018-2023) promises

During the consultation with customers for our Price Submission we promised our customers that we would:

  • undertake a minimum of 20 community engagement/education initiatives per annum from 2018-2023
  • increase Aboriginal participation through strengthened relationships with Traditional Owners, greater supplier diversity and in-kind development opportunities for Aboriginal people
  • provide $50,000 per annum in real terms in sponsorship or grants for community-based causes
  • maximise recreational benefits for the community from our land and assets
  • this program provides a structured and creative way to assist our local community in the areas that they value most.

Who can apply?

Sponsorship and financial support will only be provided to not-for-profit organisations (incorporated community groups, management committees, volunteer groups or schools) within Westernport Water’s service area who have an Australian Business Number (ABN) or are an incorporated body.

What will I need to apply?

  • A list of all funding sources; confirmed, your own contribution, unconfirmed funding and in-kind contributions

How much funding can groups apply for?

Community groups can apply for event support up to $1,000 and for projects up to $3,000. (see “Types of Sponsorship available” for more info)

Funding must be spent in the 2020-21 financial year by 30 June 2021.

A single project, event, activity or program will only be considered for one round of funding at a time.

Can I apply for funding for a permanent drinking fountain?

You may apply for an amount up to $3,000, for a permanent water station.

Do I have to pay anything for a permanent drinking fountain?

We will donate the permanent drinking fountain to you and you will need to cover the cost of installing it.

If we are paying for installation only, your group will need to cover the cost of the fountain.

When do applications close?

We will accepting Expressions of Interest for our 2020-21 Community Support Program until 20 January 2021 – **NOW EXTENDED TO FRIDAY 5 FEBRUARY 2021**.

How will applications be assessed?

After applications close, we will review all applications and make a preliminary assessment against the criteria and guidelines (as outlined above). All eligible applications will progress to the evaluation stage for consideration, and a recommendation will be made for approval.

What will not be supported?

Westernport Water will not support sponsorships that align with:

  • Delivery or replacement of core government services.
  • Delivery or replacement of core government services.
  • Donations for fundraising teams or individuals for charity.
  • Retrospective funding or budget deficits.
  • Political campaigns or groups seeking support for personal interests.
  • Events that discriminate adversely against any persons, organisations or groups.
  • Activities that have a co-sponsor supplying bottled water to either the project or the wider community or co-sponsors whose values don’t align with our values.
    Projects which conflict with Government Policy or objectives.
  • Organisations supportive of or with visible links to tobacco, gaming, alcohol or drug-related issues.
  • Proposals that do not align with the overall intent of the sponsorship objectives in our Communications and Engagement Strategy.
  • Requests that do not comply with the Information Privacy Act 2000.

How will I be notified whether my application has been successful?

We will publish successful applicants in the local paper and on our website by the end of January.

Succesful applicants will also be contacted directly about their individual circumstances.

When will I be notified if my application is successful?

We expect that all applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by mid February 2021.

When will successful applicants receive funding?

A Funding Agreement Form must be completed and returned prior to funding being released.

Applicants will receive a link to this form in the successful notification letter.

This agreement outlines the terms and conditions for a successful applicant to receive their payment.

Do we need to report back on our project?

Yes. Successful applicants must complete an Acquittal Form within three months of the project or activity’s completion.

What happens if social distancing and event restrictions continue to persist into 2021?

All events will need to adhere to government coronavirus (COVID-19)adviceto be eligible for our support.If, once funded by Westernport Water,youreventneeds to bemodifiedto fall in line with the latestgovernmenthealth advice,please contact us as soon as possible so we can determine what our event funding might look like.If, once funded by Westernport Water, your eventis unable to go ahead inthe 2020-21 calendar year,please contact us as soon as possible as funds (in part or in full) will need to bereturnedto Westernport Water.
