New water fountains make a splash

Two new public water fountains with refill dispensers installed in the Corinella and Surf Beach areas are providing convenient access for residents and visitors when they are out and about.

“Water fountains feature wheelchair accessible bubblers and refill points as well as a bowl for your four legged friend,” said Peter Quigley Managing Director of Westernport Water.

“Installing fountains across our service area is part of our Be Smart Choose Tap campaign which promotes the benefits of tap water and encourages people to drink tap water instead of buying expensive bottled water.

“The new Choose Tap water fountains are a result of an ongoing partnership with Bass Coast Shire Council,” said Mr Quigley.

“We see our partnership with Westernport Water as a really positive one. It promotes healthy choices and is providing our community and visitors to the area with convenient access to water at some of our most visited areas,” said Paul Buckley CEO Bass Coast Shire Council.

Water fountains are now available at many locations across the area including Erehwon Point, Mussel Rocks and the cultural centre in Cowes, San Remo Lions Park and San Remo Foreshore area, while others are located in Smiths Beach, Newhaven, Kilcunda and now Corinella and Surf Beach.

“Making water more accessible by adding fountains is one way to encourage people to stay hydrated and drink water, this is particularly important in the summer months and on hot days,” Mr Quigley said.

“If you can’t easily find a public drinking tap in our community we encourage you to download the Choose Tap app. The app helps you find tap water when and where you need it.”
