Media Release

Westernport Water was named ‘Leading Employer’ at the Institute of Public Administration Victoria’s (IPAA) Leadership Awards in Melbourne on Tuesday, 19th February 2019.

Now in its 11th year, the IPAA Leadership Awards have grown in reputation, with this year’s awards attracting over 90 nominees across eight categories. The awards recognise inspirational leadership across all levels of the Victorian public sector.

The award was presented to Westernport Water in recognition of its strong employee engagement and high-performance culture. Fellow finalists in the category included the State Revenue Office and the Department of Health and Human Services.

Peter Quigley, Managing Director of Westernport Water, was delighted by the win, which he believed was appropriate recognition for the commitment and care that staff demonstrate on a daily basis.

“It’s not rocket science, when staff are provided with the right leadership, a productive and healthy workplace environment and the right support, teams can achieve pretty amazing outcomes.”

“Every staff member at Westernport Water should be proud of their contribution to this award. Their passion for providing quality water and wastewater services to our customers and community is an ongoing source of inspiration to me.”

Recent initiatives at Westernport Water have focused on increasing workplace diversity and inclusion, improving workplace health and safety, growing leadership capability and supporting organisational development.

“I want Westernport Water to be known within the Bass Coast community and across the Victorian water sector as a great place to work, where people go home safe and well every day. Winning the Leading Employer Award certainly helps us do that,” said Mr Quigley.
