Hands-on experience

Westernport Water enjoys giving something back to the community especially when it gets the opportunity to provide guidance and specialist advice to the leaders of tomorrow.

Westernport Water provides opportunities for many secondary students to experience work life in various careers and fields throughout the year. Our recent work experience student Alex Cistullo from Wonthaggi Secondary College had the opportunity to familiarise himself with the duties of an engineer.

Alex recently spent several days at the organisation and was provided with a first-hand look at engineering in the water industry. During Alex’s visit he had the opportunity to see some of the technological advancements and visit many of our sites with the engineers observing the different processes that occur at each stage of the water purification. Alex visited Candowie reservoir and the Ian Bartlet Water Purification Plant, Bass River pump station and the treatment plants at Cowes and King Rd.

Alex commented: “I never really thought about the actual process and all that was involved to obtain the finished product. I now have a much better understanding of the different roles and how they interact.”
