Water Security Update – end of November 2025
As of 30 November 2025
- Our primary water storage, Candowie Reservoir, is 72% full and we continue to receive inflows. This compares with 61% in 2024.
- Late-season rainfall in November this year exceeded 179mm in the Candowie Catchment, more than double the recorded rainfall for the same period last November (83.5mm).
- Since November 2024, due to low reservoir levels, we have been sourcing water from the state’s water grid to supplement our local supply.
- Water from the state’s water grid is supplied either by the desalination plant during its operating periods or from Cardinia Reservoir when the plant is offline.
- Thanks to recent, much-welcomed rainfall and our connection to Victoria’s water grid, our water security has significantly improved.
- To maintain stable storage levels and reduce the likelihood of restrictions, we’ll be using a blend of local water and water from the state’s water grid.
- As we return to our local supply, blended with water from the state’s water grid, some customers may notice a slight change in taste. This is expected and normal when water sources vary. Your water remains safe, high-quality, and fully compliant with all drinking water standards.
- Westernport Water’s overall water supply is more than what’s stored in Candowie Reservoir. Our connection to Victoria’s water grid gives us access to diverse water supplies and makes us less vulnerable to dry conditions.
- With 31 months of available water supply as we head into summer, we have sufficient water to meet demand and reduce the likelihood of restrictions.
- Victoria is about to enter the summer months, when water use is at its highest and rainfall is at its lowest. Although we have access to the Victorian water grid, we urge everyone to be water-wise over the coming months.
- Permanent Water Saving Rules remain in place across Victoria to ensure Victorians use water efficiently. The simple rules cover how and when to use water for lawns, gardens, fountains and hard surfaces such as driveways.
The Permanent Water Saving Rules are:
- sprinklers and watering systems can only run between 6pm and 10am
- hand-held hoses must be leak-free and fitted with a trigger nozzle
- hard surfaces, such as driveways and decks, most not be hosed as part of general cleaning
- fountains and water features must recirculate water.
