Water Distribution Network Resilience Project
Improving the reliability of water supply for the community, no matter the season.
Improving the reliability of water supply for the community, no matter the season.
The Water Distribution Network Resilience Project is a strategic infrastructure upgrade designed to enhance drinking water reliability, enhance water quality, and climate resilience across Westernport Waters service area.
The project targets critical vulnerabilities in the distribution network caused by aging infrastructure, seasonal demand surges, and limited connectivity between pressure and storage zones.
This $11.3 million-dollar National Water Grid project is part funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments and delivered by Westernport Water.
We’re currently in the project planning phase however, the project is proposed to deliver a series of integrated and interconnected infrastructure upgrades for the following service zones:
Implementation of these works will deliver improved operational flexibility, enhanced water quality and system monitoring, and increased storage capacity for emergency conditions such as bushfires and drought.
Work will start in 2027 and take approximately three years to complete.
Impacts to the supply and quality of drinking water are expected to be minimal. Should disruptions to water supply occur, customers will be notified.
What is the need for this project?
Population growth, combined with greater seasonal variability and peak summer loads, is placing growing pressures on a distribution system that is already showing signs of operational stress.
In response, the project will reduce the risk of non-compliance with water quality standards and improve service reliability in high-risk areas across the network.
How will customers benefit from the project?
When you turn on the tap, you can count on a more reliable water supply. Now and during peak demand and during emergencies such as bushfires and drought.
There will be improved operational flexibility, enhanced water quality and system monitoring, and increased storage capacity for emergency conditions.
What to expect
Impacts to the supply and quality of drinking water are expected to be minimal throughout the project. Should disruptions to water supply occur, customers will be notified.
The majority of works will occur on Westernport Water managed land. Stakeholder consultation and communications will occur throughout the project as required.
