Our water recognised at Victoria’s annual taste test

Westernport Water was selected as having some of the best tasting tap water in Victoria at a recent Water Industry Operators Conference.

With the competition now in its eighth year, water samples from treatment plants around the state were judged on odour, appearance and taste.

The competition is an exciting way to raise awareness of the quality of drinking water and to recognise the efforts of local water providers and treatment plants in delivering water services to their communities.

Managing Director, Peter Quigley said “Coming equal second to Barwon Water’s Geelong Treatment Plant is a great achievement and a testament to the hard work and diligence of our water treatment staff who take great pride in their work.

“Recent consultation has shown that our customers expect improvements to the taste of our water. While we recognise that we still have a way to go to meet expectations, this result demonstrates that we’re heading in the right direction.

The positive peer recognition follows two recent upgrades to Westernport Water’s treatment plant to incorporate ultraviolet disinfection and enable real-time monitoring of water quality in Candowie Reservoir to optimise the treatment process.

“This is the first time Westernport Water has been selected as a finalist in the Victorian taste test and we look forward to testing our water against the best in the state in the coming years.”
