Westernport Water opens its doors to the public

Westernport Water is inviting all its customers to attend an annual open forum from 5pm-7pm on Thursday, 19 November 2009.

According to Westernport Water Managing Director, Murray Jackson, the reasons for a public forum were twofold.

“Having just released our annual report we wanted to invite the public along to learn more about our operations, talk to our people and see how we work,” Mr Jackson said.

“But we also see it as a two-way process because we want to hear from our customers too and try and better understand their needs as we head into the new financial year.

“At this time of year customers want certainty about supply during the coming holiday period and it is appropriate that this event becomes an annual ‘stocktake’ for the corporation and its customers.”

Mr Jackson expects that many Westernport Water customers will take up the offer to visit the Newhaven office.

“We know our residential, business and farming customers are very interested in water supply and water savings measures.

“In August 2008, we moved from stage 2 restrictions to permanent water savings measures and our customers responded by using even less water, which shows the level of local commitment there is to supporting our water supply systems.”

Customers who attend the forum will be able to talk to specialists in water supply, water quality and wastewater treatment.

Members of the Westernport Water Board and executive team will also be on hand to meet the public.

“I urge everyone who is interested in water and wastewater to come along so we can all work together to make our systems a success,” Mr Jackson said.
