Seasonal challenges with a larger reservoir

Water quality is being monitored closely to understand the impacts of seasonal non-toxic algae blooms explains Westernport Water.

Understanding the impacts of seasonal non-toxic algae blooms with a larger reservoir has presented a few challenges for Westernport Water.
Westernport Water’s Managing Director Murray Jackson said “since the reservoir upgrade a naturally occurring algae has been present and we are continually monitoring the impact of the changes.
“At the start of the week some customers reported an uncharacteristic taste and smell with the water.  We assure you it’s only temporary and the water is safe to drink.
“Our Water Quality team have modified the treatment process and we assure a noticeable improvement over the next few days as the water makes its way through the system.
“Our operations staff has been busy flushing the distribution system to improve the water quality as quickly as possible.
“We apologise for the temporary inconvenience and trust our customers will understand we are taking the necessary steps to minimise the likelihood of these issues impacting our customers”, said Mr Jackson.
