Background

All water authorities are required to comply with Victorian privacy laws, particularly the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 and the ten Information Privacy Principles contained in that Act.

Compliance with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 sits under Westernport Water’s Strategic Focus Area of ‘Our Corporate Governance’ within the Corporate Objective of ‘ Meeting our regulatory requirements’.

The expression ‘Personal Information’ is a term defined in the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 and is used in the Personal Privacy Charter to refer to ‘information or an opinion about an individual whose identity is apparent, or could be reasonably ascertained, from the information or opinion.

Protecting your personal information

Westernport Water is committed to ensuring the personal information you provide to us is protected from misuse. We believe that respect for your privacy forms a critical part of the ongoing relationship we wish to develop with you. Westernport Water has established a Personal Privacy Charter to properly set out its commitment and to help you understand your rights and Westernport Water’s obligations under the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014.
