Under Channel Pipeline
Westernport Water is securing Phillip Island's water future with the construction of a 450mm diameter under channel water main between San Remo and Newhaven. The pipeline was installed by a horizontal directional drilling (HDD) method approximately 10 meters below the seabed.
The project also incorporated a 180mm diameter high density polyethylene pipe (HDPE) alongside the water main that removed drilling waste during construction, and can now be used as a service line for gas, electricity or broadband cabling. Our contracters COE Drilling completed the installation of the water main by the end of August 2011, after which Westernport Water carried out the final connection in September.
Progress Summary
- The 180mm diameter service pipe was installed on June 24.
- Installation of the 450mm water main occurred between 17-20 July
- Demobilisation and reinstation of the surrounding area was completed in early August 2011.
- The final water main connection was carried out in late August and Westernport Water began using the pipeline in September 2011
Westernport Water thanks the community for its patience and understanding during the construction of the under channel pipeline.
