Westernport Water has a number of different projects designed to secure the future water supply needs of the region. This community update provides an overview and a regular update for each of these projects.
Under Channel Pipeline
Westernport Water is securing Phillip Island’s water future with the construction of an under channel water main between San Remo and Newhaven. Our contractors COE Drilling anticipate completing the installation of the water main by the end of August 2011, after which Westernport Water will carry out the final connection in September.
Class A Recycled Water
The Federal Government, through its National Water Security plan for Cities and Towns, awarded a $2.85 million dollar grant to Westernport Water on behalf of the Commonwealth's Water for Future strategy. This grant contribution will help fund 50 per cent of the Phillip Island Recycled Water Scheme designed specifically for the production of Class A water.
Candowie Reservoir Upgrade
Under its Candowie Reservoir Water Supply Project, Westernport Water plans to undertake an upgrade of the Candowie Reservoir. By raising the supply level three meters, water capacity will be almost doubled from 2263 ML to 4463 ML.
