Calling all water-saving stars

Westernport Water is seeking entrants for the seventh national savewater! awards®.

Nomination are now open for awards recognising and rewarding outstanding achievements in water conservation across Australia.
Regarded as the nations leading water sustainability awards, the program showcases water-saving innovation in businesses, government departments, schools, local communities and individuals across nine categories:
• Built Environment and Gardens
• Business Award
• Community Action - $1000 in prize money
• Educational Institutions
• Government
• International Product Innovations Award
• Photographic Award (three sub-categories; Primary, Secondary and General) - $1000 for the winning schools
• Regional and Rural
• Young Achiever - $1000 in prize money 
Also, this year Australian companies will have the opportunity to compete against the rest of the world, as a result of the Product Innovations category opening up internationally.
Westernport Water is part of the savewater!® Alliance which is running the awards.
Westernport Water managing director Murray Jackson said: “We were among the first water corporations supporting this industry-good body and have been heartened to see the awards’ growth.
“We encourage groups, companies, schools and individuals to enter the awards. We can even help candidates prepare their nominations. Phone 5956 4140.”
Last year was the biggest to date, with more than 800 entries from all over Australia.
“The awards provide a platform to showcase and reward the water-saving stars.” Nigel Finney, CEO of the savewater! ® Alliance Inc said: “Many individuals, businesses, community groups and government departments are implementing world-leading water-saving initiatives. These awards allow them to be recognised and rewarded for their efforts.”
Award entries close Monday, 1 June 2009, with winners announced at a gala ceremony in Sydney on Friday, 9 October 2009.
